How to Configure Compliance for Detection and Redaction

Compliance in VIDIZMO lets you group detection and redaction classes under named regulatory standards such as HIPAA, GDPR, or PCI DSS. Instead of manually selecting individual PII entities or object detection types each time you process content, you select a compliance entry and VIDIZMO auto-populates the associated classes for you.

This guide walks you through creating, managing, and using compliance entries in your portal.

To learn more about compliance, see Understanding Compliance for Detection and Redaction.

Prerequisites

  • You belong to a group where the Manage Redaction Codes & Compliance feature is enabled. This lets you create and manage compliance entries in portal settings.
  • The Redaction Codes & Compliance feature is also enabled if you need to apply compliance during processing in Studio.
  • To use compliance during content processing, you also need PII Detection and Redaction and/or Object Detection features enabled in your group.
  • Custom patterns are created if you plan to include them in compliance entries. See How to Create Custom Patterns.

Note: To enable features and permissions for a group, see Enable Features in the VIDIZMO Portal.

Open the Compliance Settings Page

  1. Select the menu icon in the top-left corner to open the navigation pane.
  2. Expand Admin and select Portal Settings.
  3. Expand Library in the left panel.
  4. Select Compliance Settings.

The compliance settings page displays all available compliance entries for your portal, including global (system-provided) entries and portal-specific entries you've created.

Create a Compliance Entry

  1. Select Add New at the top of the page.
  2. Enter a Name for the compliance entry (for example, "HIPAA" or "GDPR").
  3. Optionally enter a Description to document what the entry covers.
  4. In the Classes dropdown, select the detection and redaction classes to include:
    • Object Detection and Custom Patterns appear at the top of the list without a group header.
    • PII classes are grouped under the PII header. Select the PII checkbox to select all PII classes at once.
  5. If you selected Object Detection or Custom Patterns, the Sub Classes dropdown appears. Select the specific sub-types to include (such as Face, Person, or individual custom pattern entities).
  6. Select Publish to save the compliance entry.

Note: Global compliance entries (provided by the system) can be viewed but not edited. To customize a global entry, clone it first and edit the copy.

Activate or Deactivate a Compliance Entry

Each compliance entry has a toggle on the right side of the list.

  • Turn the toggle on to make the entry available in the compliance dropdowns during processing.
  • Turn the toggle off to hide the entry from processing dropdowns without deleting it.

Deactivated entries remain on the settings page and can be reactivated at any time.

Edit a Compliance Entry

  1. Select the edit icon next to the compliance entry you want to modify.
  2. Update the Name, Description, Classes, or Sub Classes as needed.
  3. Select Publish to save your changes.

Clone a Compliance Entry

  1. Select the clone icon next to any compliance entry (including global entries).
  2. A copy is created with "(Copy)" appended to the name.
  3. Edit the cloned entry as needed and select Publish.

This is useful when you want to use a global entry as a starting point and customize it for your portal's specific requirements.

Delete a Compliance Entry

  1. Select the delete icon next to the compliance entry.
  2. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Note: Global compliance entries can't be deleted. Only portal-specific entries that you created can be removed.

Use Compliance During Processing

After creating and activating compliance entries, they appear in the Compliance (Detection) and Compliance (Redaction) dropdowns when processing content. These dropdowns are available in three locations:

  • VIDIZMO Indexer app settings — for configuring automatic processing. See Configuring VIDIZMO Indexer for PII Detection and Redaction.
  • Process Modal — when manually processing content by selecting it and choosing Process > Generate AI Insights.
  • Studio Space — when configuring detection and redaction for content open in Studio.

To use compliance during on-demand processing:

  1. Select the content you want to process.
  2. Select Process and turn on Generate AI Insights.
  3. In the Compliance (Detection) dropdown, select one or more compliance entries.
  4. The mapped detection classes are auto-populated and locked in the Insights dropdown below.
  5. Optionally, add more detection classes manually — these remain unlocked and removable.
  6. In the Compliance (Redaction) dropdown, select compliance entries for redaction. Only entries already selected for detection appear here.
  7. The mapped redaction classes are auto-populated and locked in the Redaction Classes dropdown.
  8. Select Start to begin processing.

View Compliance Results

After processing completes, the compliance entry names are automatically added as tags on the content. You can view these tags on the content's playback page under the content details section.

These compliance tags help you:

  • Identify which regulatory standard a piece of content was processed against
  • Search for content by compliance tag in the Media Library (or Evidence Library in DEMS)
  • Track compliance coverage across your portal's content
